The Federal Reserve announced on Wednesday that it will keep interest rates steady at 3.5%–3.75%, with Fed Chair Kevin Warsh marking the start of his tenure. Policymakers cited elevated inflation, partly driven by supply shocks in energy amid the war in Iran, though job growth remains strong. The FOMC's latest dot plot signals nine of 18 members expect a rate hike by 2026, with six projecting two 25-basis-point increases.

Inflation is now projected at 3.6% by year-end (up from 2.7%), while unemployment is seen at 4.3% and GDP growth at 2.2%. Warsh emphasized the Fed's commitment to its 2% inflation target, acknowledging persistent price pressures but stressing a data-driven approach. He announced plans for five task forces to review monetary policy, communications, and inflation drivers—including AI's potential impact—aiming for most conclusions by year-end. Warsh also removed forward guidance, calling for flexibility as economic conditions evolve.
