Should You Make Extra Mortgage Principal Payments?

For example, homeowners with adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs) may want to pay extra to reduce their balance before interest rates adjust. Others may find more benefit in alternative uses for discretionary funds, such as paying off high-interest debt or investing.
