Mortgage Rates Decline for Third Consecutive Day
Mortgage rates for 30-year loans fell again Wednesday, marking the third straight day of declines and bringing the flagship average to its lowest level since mid-December. Rates for other mortgage types also edged lower. Since lenders' rates vary, it's wise to shop around for the best mortgage deal.
Current Mortgage Rate Averages
The average 30-year mortgage rate dropped 4 basis points to 6.86%, its lowest since Dec. 18. Just two weeks ago, the average had climbed to 7.13%, the highest since May. Back in September, rates had briefly fallen to a two-year low of 5.89% before rebounding by 1.25 percentage points. In April, the 30-year rate hit 7.37%, while October 2023 saw a 23-year peak of 8.01%.
The 15-year mortgage average declined 5 basis points Wednesday, reaching 6.01%. This remains over a percentage point below October 2023’s 7.08% peak. Meanwhile, jumbo 30-year mortgage rates dropped 4 basis points to 6.80%.
Freddie Mac Weekly Average
Freddie Mac’s weekly 30-year mortgage average fell 8 basis points last week to 6.96%. This differs from Investopedia’s daily average, which provides a more immediate measure of rate movements.

The noodles pack a flavorful, spicy punch, while the dumplings, bathed in sweet soy and chili oil, are perfectly chewy and delicious. Both dishes showcase the restaurant’s bold Sichuan flavors and are absolutely worth ordering.
